History of Napoleon Barbecues
It all started in October 1969 when Wolfgang Schroeter emigrated from Germany to Barrie, Canada. He met his wife Ingrid while working as a toolmaker, and in 1976, Wolfgang and Ingrid founded Wolf Steel Ltd and began manufacturing steel railings.
When Ingrid’s father asked for a new oven in 1978, Wolfgang built him one. Then he built one for his neighbor. Word spread and soon the Schroeters were in the oven business.
In 1980, Wolfgang became the first to equip wood stoves with ceramic glass doors and an air purification system, allowing the user to see the fire under the stove for the first time. Throughout the 1980s and early 90s, Wolfgang’s wood stoves were sold across Canada and the USA.
Fast forward to 1995 when Wolf Steel Ltd. introduced barbecues to their product line and Napoleon as we know it was founded. 15 years later, Napoleon would develop their first charcoal grill to help attract European grillers, and today, Napoleon sells grills in 34 countries around the world.
Napoleon is still a private family-owned company. Wolfgang and Ingrid retired in 2018, and now their sons Christoper and Stephen are co-CEOs, continuing the tradition of developing innovative grill features for BBQ lovers around the world.

Replacement Parts for Napoleon Barbecues
Napoleon barbecues are built to last for years, but you may still need to replace parts every so often to extend the lifespan of your Napoleon barbecue.
Regardless of brand or manufacturing quality, some grill parts are just more susceptible to damage than others, which they’re more likely to require replacement. Burners, heat plates, cooking grates, and igniters are the most commonly replaced grill parts.
Before you purchase any replacement parts, be sure to check your grill’s model number and ensure you are selecting the right part for your grill. Napoleon grill model numbers are a series of letters and numbers, such as RXT525SIBPK-1 or R525PK-1.
To determine your Napoleon barbecue’s model number, there are three places to check:
- Your owner’s manual
- The metal label or sticker on the back or inside of your grill. The sticker may also be located on the underside of the grill lid.
- The outer packaging, if you still have it.
To find model-specific parts, select your model number from the left-hand navigation on our store.
