History of Char-Broil Grills
Though officially founded in 1948, Char-Broil’s history stretches back to the roaring 20s when a company called W.C. Bradley Co. acquired a controlling interest in the Columbus Iron Works. When agriculture (and Columbus Iron Works’ business) started moving west in the 1940s, the Bradley Co. knew they needed to adapt. Enter the backyard grill.
Bradley Co. embraced the growing backyard leisure market and began manufacturing a portable outdoor cooker called “Char-Broil” in the late ’40s—thought by some to be the first cast iron charcoal grill available on the market. A few years later in 1955, Bradley Co. introduced their first gas grill, and by the 1960s, they were mass producing grills to meet growing demand nationwide. They continued their pioneering ways into the ’70s when they introduced the first electric, portable gas grills, and tabletop grills.
W.C. Bradley Enterprises officially adopted the name Char-Broil in 1977, and has since steadily introduced even more innovations like easy to clean materials and features, certified replacement grill parts, the now-ubiquitous electric ignition system, and their patented TRU-Infrared™ Cooking System and Amplifire heating system.
Over 60 years since they first released the iconic Char-Broil 19 grill, Char-Broil remains one of the leading grill brands in North America.
